Samples
I've done a lousy job of keeping samples of my writing. For years I contributed to various ZDNet sites, as well as two Ziff-Davis magazines (Yahoo! Internet Life and Internet Underground). Unfortunately, I could only rescue two examples of this work from the Internet. My job title at CNET was "Senior Editor," but I've always found editing to be drudgery. I'm capable, but not enthusiastic. I have hopes of someday devoting more energy to writing, but for now I'm focusing on Web development.
That said, here are samples of writing I've done.
-
The Windows Command-Line FTP Client
A short tutorial describing how to use the built-in FTP client on Windows operating systems. - Semi-Automatic Uploading with Windows Batch Files
This tutorial walks the reader through the processes of creating a Windows Batch File to automate FTP transfers. - A New Look at the 216-Color Palette
This article, written for ZDNet's Developer site, offers Photoshop users a new layout for the Web-safe color palette. I designed the palette during a fit of displeasure with the default Web-safe palette. - Downloading Just Got Loads Easier
A series of tips I originally wrote for ZDNet's Help Channel were picked up and used in Jesse Berst's Anchordesk newsletter way back in 1997. It's hard to remember that this sort of information was once pertinent. - A Review of Memoirs of a Shy Pornographer
In the heyday of personal publishing, just before blogs came along, a small 'zine was created for people who love to read. I was happily invited to contribute a book review to the second edition of Words Words Words magazine. - Etiquette & Protocol
This site has been an on-and-off project for me since 1995. I started this site with a partner, who wrote a number of the entries. The remainder were written by me.
